A survey conducted in 2013 reports that 57 percent of American female college students reported episodes of “overwhelming anxiety.” A similar study in the U.K. showed that a third of young women and 10 percent of young men undergo panic attacks.
Luckily, neuroscientists have found that a specially designed song can help reduce anxiety levels. Researchers at Mindlab International, UK gave their test subjects some puzzles to solve. Then they tried to find out what kind of music relaxes them the most.
They also connected some monitors to the participants in order to measure their physiological responses. That’s how they discovered an effective song named “Weightless” by Marconi Union. The song caused 65 percent reduction in participants’ anxiety levels, and 35 percent reduction in their normal physiological resting rates.
The song is so effective that many participants even reported feeling drowsy. Lead researcher, Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, advises not listening to it while driving.
