Gemma Walker from Australia was suffering from anorexia and bulimia for years, and doctors have given her only 48 hours to live. However, today she is 22 years old and fully recovered and dedicated in the fight against both diseases in order to help other girls do not suffer what she did.
Diseases was diagnosed her when she was only 14 years old, a doctor immediately told the family that she would die unless she underwent treatment for recovery. In the next seven years, three times finishing urgently hospitalized at psychiatry and department where she managed to regain her lost weight on some acceptable minimum.
She launched the business with products for beauty and now celebrates six months since she succeed to heal. Last week, she shared photos that she looks like a living skeleton, and they wanted to raise awareness about the fight against the disease that she herself experienced.
– I look at each picture separately and remember what exactly I had the feeling in those moments and what meaning they have. I felt stiff, every day became the same and I was hoping that I will die in peace, while sleeping. My family and I were already ready that I was going to die – said Gemma.
Her father, Steve points out that today feels pain when he is looking at the pictures of her daughter from the worst stages of the disease.
However, she later began to suffer from “refeeding” syndrome, or return to normal eating, because she was consuming 6,500 calories in 20 minutes making her swooned and hallucinating.
– My recovery was traumatic because my pounds quickly returned. In just seven months, I got 40 pounds, which was nearly three times more than I had; it had an impact on my psyche. People thought that I feel good because I looked healthier. It took me much, but I managed to get it all out, now I see what life is, and that I was so close to death – concluded the girl.
